What has roots that nobody sees, and is taller than trees. Up, up it goes, and yet it never grows. What is it?

If it doesn't grows, anything alive gets out of the list immediately, machines don''t have roots so they're out too, trees have many different sizes, but to beat any tree, it needs to be pretty big, like a mountain, but they don't have roots either, however, a tall building does have "roots", because if it hadn't it would fall, they need to have a cimentation pretty deep, so I'll say a tall building.

Something else came to my mind, a big, not living thing that goes very up and you can't see the "roots", if I say roots is anything below, maybe a freakin' volcano eruption.
