At a banquet where knights gather, each knight sat and clinked his glass with the knight to his left and to the knight to his right. If there are fifteen knights at this banquet, how many times did the glasses clink, hm?

I'll imply that they're sitting on the same table, mathematically is 15.

ok if the knights are sitting in the same table an you are counting each time two glasses clinked ... th e total would be 15.
But if you are counting the number of clinks heard then that depends on the number of glasses clinked simultaneously.

Just make an easy test if you want, clinck glases with other people, you don't go one by one and wait untill they go one by one.
