China Telecom said to block SkypePosted by Mike Stanclift on 10 Sep 2005 - 20:47 China Telecom has started blocking access to a popular Internet telephone service that is threatening its long-distance revenue, according to local media reports and Internet postings. China's largest fixed-line phone carrier recently began blocking access to service from Skype Technologies SA, a European-based Internet telecoms services provider, in the affluent southern city of Shenzhen near Hong Kong, according to the reports, including one in the Shanghai Daily. They said China Telecom, whose broadband Internet service allows access to Skype, has plans to eventually block the service throughout its coverage area nationwide. They also said the carrier has created a "black list" of people who use the service in Shenzhen, and threatened to fine anyone who tries to get around the new obstacles. China routinely blocks access to Web sites on politically sensitive subjects such as the banned Falun Gong spiritual movement and the 1989 crackdown at Tiananmen Square that left hundreds dead. But blockage of sites for purely economic reasons is much less common. --------------------------------------------------------------- Source

Too bad for those who like it, whatever for the rest, but that's how communism works, they just have to give it up....... or make a revolution!!!
Ok, the first option is kind of more probable.

Kinda offtopic but ...
I heard that the admin "bumped" this thread for me to see and not to start another thread about a related topic.....
mmm.... But the thing is ... this is another topic... this is not what I was talking about... never the less related but not the same ....

It is about the same stuff, and I understand that it is international, so it works to talk about it here without relationship to china, in any case, if you think that would be offtopic and that's why you started the thread I think it's ok, but Link thinks that you started a new thread without seeing or knowing about this one.

hopefully closing the offtopic part of this thread .... (if you still want to talk about this with me ... send me a PM) .... The topic here is "China Telecom said to block Skype" it does not said anything about that technology here on america ... having a highly devolpe country as Japan so near ... it could be the case that the technology is going west from there instead of east to America... Also I was intending, as mention already somewhere in this forum, to know your opinion about using it yourselves.
Closing offtopic.

Well, Skype is a software for talking online by voice, without having to pay, even if it's international. So I think it has relationship. China Telecom blocked Skype because it would kill their telephone business.
PS: I'm currently feeling a little lazy, so I didn't use the glow. PS2: I'm not sure if it's free because I haven't used it, just heard about it.
